Demons are malevolent, evil personalities. They are spirit beings. They are the enemies of God and His angels, and man. Their objectives in people are to confuse, deceive, tempt, accuse, condemn, defile, pressure, resist, oppose, steal, control, harass, afflict, kill, and destroy. They also try to keep people in bondage to sin. The same demons the Lord Jesus Christ was casting out of people when He walked on the earth about 2,000 years ago are still around! Indeed, the scriptures read “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

Demons enter through “open doors.” They have to be given an opportunity to enter. Every person on the face of the earth is a target of Satan’s kingdom. He devises a plan to ruin and destroy each person, there is no one who is exempt.

Normally, Christians are hedged about so that demons can’t enter into them (yes, despite what some would adamantly deny, Christians can be demonized, but not be possessed). Normally, non-Christians are also protected to a certain extent in that the Lord does not allow demons to violate their free wills. An opening in the protective hedge must be made before demons can get into a person’s body.

Sin (especially continual, habitual sin) breaks a hole in the protective hedge, many times allowing a demon or demons to actually enter into a person committing the sin. The scriptures are clear: any dealing with the works of Satan opens a doorway in a person’s life for the inflow of demonic infestation. God told the Israelites: “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19:31). The scriptures are also clear that whatever a man sows that is what he will reap (Galatians 6:7), that the devil works in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2), and to not give the devil a foothold in one’s life (Ephesians 4:17). If you have lived a life of blatant rebellion against God then you shouldn’t be surprised if you have issues with demons, whether you are a Christian or non-Christian.

That said, demons do not always automatically leave the body of a demonized person when converted to Christ. The convert may need to have prayer for deliverance.

But one may argue that there are many who live a life of blatant sin but their lives seem to be going well or even “blessed.” Yes, that is true for some people and it is possible the god of this world (satan) is “blessing” them. Satan doesn’t mind if a person has the “good life” as long as that person is on the broad road to destruction – to hellfire. The demons they may have in their life can lie low, but will get stirred up and will retaliate against the person if he or she repents and turns to the Lord Jesus Christ. I have experienced this in my life: once I totally repented and submitted my life to Jesus Christ, the host of hell tried to literally kill me. Why? Because once a person turns to Jesus the person becomes a threat to Satan’s kingdom since the person can be used by the Holy Spirit for God’s kingdom.

The list is not exhaustive but here are some things that will possibly open a person up to demonic infestation. Some things are due to the person’s own sins and others due to other people’s sins.

Possible demonic doorways:

1. New Age meditation (such as Transcendental Meditation) and New Age visualization.
2. Practicing yoga [link 2].
3. Involved with kundalini or having a so-called kundalini awakening/arousal/activation.
4. Laying on of hands from someone who is demonized (demons can transfer), or receiving a shaktipat. Involved in a Fire Tunnel.
5. Chanting, incantations, or mantras.
6. Automatic writing, or any kind of channeling [link 2].
7. Tattoos, especially if the tattoo is an evil figure or an occult symbol. Scarification. Extreme body modification.
8. Making oaths or pledges (such as to a sorority or fraternity).
9. Making a blood pact or deal with the devil. “Selling” one’s soul.
10. Worship of false gods, deities, or idols (or was dedicated to one) such as Santa Muerte. Ancestor worship.
11. Doing invocations, or allowing spirits to come inside your body.
12. Being involved with any Christian cult (or any cult in general), or false religion that denies the deity of Jesus and the everlasting Gospel which includes Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormonism, Scientology, Roman Catholicism, Islam, Black Hebrew Israelite, Freemasonry [link 2], Hinduism, Taoism, Satanism, etc.
13. Mary idolatry.
14. Crystal work or crystal healing, any kind of lucky charm, amulet, talisman (such as occult or New Age jewelry) or fetish, and anything “consecrated.”
15. Indulging in certain Hip Hop or Rock music [link 2].
16. Indulging in pornography [link 2, 3]
17. The practice of fornication [link 2], oral sex, sodomy or homosexual sex, masturbation. Involved in incest; bestiality; adultery.
18. Being unequally yoked with an unbeliever.
19. Involved in any form of divination such as consulting a psychic or an oracle, fortune telling, I Ching, numerology, astrology, horoscopes, dowsing (or water witching), tarot cards (or oracle cards, angel cards, etc.), palm reading, scrying (such as crystal grazing, hydromancy, etc.), a pendulum, or contacting the “dead” (necromancy) as in a séance and divination games such as Charlie Charlie. Playing with an Ouija Board even on a smartphone.
20. Anything that alters the consciousness especially drugs (this is a huge demonic door opener and a very common one) such as smoking marijuana, DMT, ayahuasca, crystal meth, LSD, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc. Perhaps even some pharmaceutical drugs such as Adderall.
21. Drunkenness.
22. Listening to binaural beats or New-Age frequency sounds. Perhaps listening to subliminals.
23. Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy.
24. Reiki [link 2] (or energy healing), or anything to do with mystical energies (such as qi), or occult healing (a huge demonic door opener). Also being involved with Massage Therapy, Therapeutic Touch, CranioSacral Therapy, Shiatsu, Network Spinal Analysis, or Reconnective Healing®. Being a “lightworker” or involved with “light language.”
25.  New Age Medical practices such as muscle testing (applied kinesiology). Diagnosed by an occult practitioner such as an Iridologist. Acupuncture.
26. Qigong, Tai Chi, and the mystical side of Martial Arts.
27. Opening the “third eye”. 
28. Involved in any kind of occult activity, spell or magic  (whether black or white),  charming,   witchcraft, spiritualism or spirituality such as Winti, Umbanda, Macumba, Candomblé, Santeria, Obeah, Juju (or ju-ju), and Voodoo (this is a huge demonic door opener). Also involved with shamanism [link 2], a witch doctor (another huge demonic door opener), traditional healer (or sangoma), spiritual guru, medium, spiritualist, magician, soothsayer, seer, sorcerer, yogi or the like. Also involved with a psychic healer or psychic surgeon. Not to mention involved in any pagan ritual or “cleansing”.
29. Watching horror movies.
30. Being involved with abortion or shedding innocent blood. Involved in a blood sacrifice.
31. Suicide attempts.
32. Deliberately astral projecting, or remote viewing.
33. Method acting.
34. Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft, or similar games; certain video games.
35. Calling upon spirit guides or ascended masters. Angel contact, consciousness, or work. Involvement with or praying to angels of the new age/occult.
36. Involved in ghost hunting.
37. Unwilling to forgive and having bitterness. Extreme hatred towards another.
38. Being a worker of iniquity (stripper or frequenting strip clubs, prostitution or fornicating with prostitutes, involved in gang activity, selling drugs, stealing, constantly lying, infidelity, direct rebellion against God or parents, backsliding, etc.).
39. Idle words.
40. Involved with developing or trying to develop psychic or ESP abilities such as telekensis/psychokinesis, or telepathy; involved with mind control.
41. Cursing God.
42. Giving in to irrational fits of rage or anger.
43. Extreme pride.

Not necessarily open doorways for demons to be inside your body but possible demonic open doorways into your home:

1. Cursed objects such as dream catchers, talisman, amulets, charms, occult or New Age jewelry, a pentagram, etc.
2. Any occult or New Age items such as ouija boards, a voodoo doll, etc. Certain occult and magic books can also have demonic attachments such as the 6th and 7th Book of Moses.
3. Tribal objects such as masks or anything consecrated or used in false religions.
4. Any idols such as Buddha, Hindu “gods”, or Mary statues.
5. In or near an area where spiritualistic activity was performed (perhaps someone who lived in the home before you played with the ouija board).

Doorways you may not have opened directly but someone else has opened:

1. A victim of sexual abuse or molestation (a huge demonic door opener).
2. Generational curses (perhaps one’s ancestors were involved with witchcraft or the occult).
3. A victim of black magic – a witchcraft spell, curse or hex (such as eating cursed foods or drinks; or charmed). Word curses.
4. Was dedicated to the demonic realm.
5. Maybe childhood trauma.

Or it can be none of the above:

I have come across people were there had been no apparent doorway for the enemy to afflict him or her. And there were no generational curses that we could identify. I believe in such cases God may be testing the person’s faith. Job was a man who was blameless before God but God allowed satan to afflict him with boils (Job 2:6). God allowed the apostle Paul to have a messenger (or angel) from satan in his flesh, which he called a thorn, to buffet him to keep him humble (Corinthians 12:7-9). The following scripture can apply to such people who are being afflicted:

“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12). Yes, those who truly live for Jesus Christ will suffer persecution in some form or another (2 Timothy 3:12).

For many years I got attacked constantly by the enemy even though I wasn’t practicing any sins. The more I prayed or the more I did some good works for the Lord, the more the enemy retaliated. It’s not an easy path to really live for Jesus Christ as the scriptures read, “…Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22).

Possible signs or symptoms of demonization or demon possession:

1. Feeling or sensing the demons moving on the inside of you (can feel like an “energy” or “electricty;”crawling underneath the skin, etc.); can feel the pains move around. Feeling pressure or tightness and movement in the head or eyes and stomach areas.
2. Will have strong, inner compulsions to do bad things that are not in their normal behavior patterns, like having bad thoughts or feelings to commit suicide, murder, or to molest.
3. Have very strong addictions to things as drugs, alcohol, pornography, or masturbation; in bondage or a slave to a certian sin.
4. Very manipulative and controlling; extremely sensual and seductive (could be a Jezebel spirit). Narcissistic.
5. Can have multiple personalities or an “alternate ego“.
6. Intense uncontrollable rage; sudden outburst of anger; extremely violent. Abusive. A psychopath.
7. Very heavy, uncontrollable twitching type activity on certain parts of their bodies like their face or arms. Feel strange vibrations of the body or parts of the body.
8. A compulsive desire to curse and blaspheme God and Jesus.
9. The demons can sometimes control the vocal cords and speak right out of the person’s mouth. When this occurs, the tone of the person’s voice could change, like a woman speaking out in a man’s deep, husky voice. Demons can also emit animal-like sounds out of a person’s mouth and vocal cords, like the hissing of a snake, the growling of a lion or tiger, the howl and/or snarl like a wolf. They can also let out very loud screams and yells, especially when being directly confronted by the deliverance minister during the actual deliverance itself.
10. Various types of facial contortions which no longer look like the person, such as stretching the skin of the face into a contorted, hissing like expression.
11. Various types of bodily contortions like people slithering across the floor like snakes, getting on all fours and barking like dogs, growling like lions, or howling like wolves. Strangely stretching out their spines, fingers, and hands locking up and going rigid, and demons grabbing a hold of a person’s throat to try to stop him/her from talking with a deliverance minister. The demons can also whip the head in a very rapid side-to-side type movement, stretch the neck out as far as it will go, along with jolting portions of the body causing those portions to move in a very rapid side-to-side type movement.
12. Having glazed eyes or a filmy look, slit eyes, blank stare type eyes, black eyes, or eyes that rolls backward where all you see are the whites of the eyes (especially when receiving deliverance prayer). Eyes that are evil looking. One can see another spirit through the eyes.
13. Hearing voices or having tormenting thoughts in your head. Sometimes hear words accusing you, putting you down, blaspheming God, or compelling you to commit murder or other criminal acts; very intrusive thoughts; severe emotional or mental torments (I would say there is almost a 100% certainty of having demons with this symptom).
14. Extreme pride or arrogance. May have a mocking smile or laughter when receiving prayer for deliverance. Demons are very proud (read about Leviathan).
15. Engaging in self-harm acts such as self-mutilation or cutting; uncontrollably crying out loud (Mark 5:5).
16. Perhaps most, if not all, mental illnesses or disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, neurosis, etc.
17. Epileptic seizures; convulsions.
18. Many diseases and physical afflictions can be due to spirits of infirmity (Luke 13:11). I believe Morgellons disease and fibromyalgia are several examples. Blindness (Matthew 12:22), deafness, and being mute (Mark 9:17) can be demonically caused.
19. Thrown to the ground, fire, or water; foaming at the mouth; gnashing of teeth; becoming rigid (Matthew 17:15; Mark 9:14-29).
20. Having a choking sensation; dizziness; blackouts. Falling into a trance or fainting during (deliverance) prayer.
21. Having a very hard time praying (for instance, demons can confuse your words when praying), and reading or hearing from their Bible. Overwhelmed with slumber when reading the Bible. An aversion to worship.
22. Wanting to flee from the presence of Christians – feel uncomfortable around them. Has agitation before a deliverance minister or before receiving prayer for deliverance.
23. Inability or resistance to confess the biblical Jesus Christ.
24. A feeling of heaviness or oppression. Strong depression. Melancholia.
25. Uncontrollable or very powerful feelings of lust. Strong impulses or thoughts or feelings of sexual perversity (e.g. homosexuality, pedophilia, etc.).
26. Having psychic, clairvoyant, or mediumistic abilities.
27. An irrational extreme hatred for a people group (e.g., Jews, the Church, etc.).
28. Speaking in a foreign language that the person never learned before; demonic “tongues.”
29. In regards to children: extremely defiant, rebellious, out of control, violent and hateful towards parents.
30. Terrifying doubt of one’s salvation, even though one once knew the joy of this salvation.
31. Hyperventilation and shortness of breath with no medical cause.
32. Feel like you are being constricted, much like a snake constricts its prey.
33. Constant anxiety, terrifying panic attacks, or other abnormal fears. Extreme restlessness, especially in a Christian environment.
34. Compulsive desire to tear other people down, even if it means lying to do so. The vicious cutting use of the tongue may well be demonic.
35. Dreams and nightmares that are of a horrific, recurring nature. Clairvoyant dreams– dreams that later come true– may be demonic. Frequent dreams of dead people or death; or dreams of a (horrid) sexual nature.
36. Constantly seeing the same number groupings.
37. Thinking you are being gang stalked without any substantial evidence or when it hasn’t been confirmed by another person. Scared all the time or paranoid.
38. Superhuman strength (Mark 5:3-4).
39. Kundalini symptoms.
40. Scratches on the body that didn’t come from any natural source. Having a burning or stinging sensation as if from scorpions with no medical cause.
41. Alien Hand Syndrome (a person’s hand involuntary tries to harm the person).
42. Insomnia.
43. Sicknesses that doctors can’t detect.
44. Having a warped and distorted character: hard, egoistic persons; uncongenial, dark nature.
45. Macabre imaginations; very dark, twisted fantasies. Overwhelming impure thoughts.
46. Tourette Syndrome – tics, vocal or physical repetitions such as grunts, hissing, swearing, blasphemy, and jerking part of the body.
47. Symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
48. Headaches without any medical cause.
49. Chronic memory or concentration deficits with no organic or traumatic cause.
50. Issues with gluttony.
51. Having a messiah complex.
52. Feelings of depersonalization and/or derealization.
53. Powerful attraction to the occult and witchcraft.
54. Extremely low self-image (unworthy, a failure, no good, constant undermining of the self-identity).
55. Irrational guilt or self-condemnation to the extreme.
56. Lying, exaggerating, or stealing compulsively, often wondering why.
57. Questions and challenges to God’s Word.
58. Sudden temporary interference with bodily functions — buzzing in ears, hypersensitivity in hearing or touch, chills or overwhelming heat in body, numbness in arms or legs, temporary paralysis.
59. Very bizarre and erratic behavior.
60. Simply felt an evil spirit enter one’s body.
61. Feels like something is stuck or lodged in one’s throat.
62. Perhaps gender dysphoria (feeling like the gender that differs from the one which corresponds to the person’s sex at birth), and other dysphorias.
63. Seeing demonic images while eyes closed.

Signs of demonic activity (may not necessarily be because of demonization): 

1. Seeing orbs or strange lights.
2. Catching shadows or streaks out of the corner of your eye or peripheral vision.
3. Seeing apparitions [link 2]; “aliens“.
4. Poltergeist activity: hearing knocking, tapping, scratching or footsteps; items being moved around the house, etc.
5. Hearing voices, breathing, growling, barking, pig-like noises, or hissing in your ear as you start to fall asleep.
6. Strange smells like smoke, burnt moldy wood, badly burned pork, rotten eggs, sulfur, etc.
7. Sleep Paralysis, hypnic jerk, being slapped, or touched while sleeping.
8. Waking up and seeing gray, black, or pale greenish/gray clouds.
9. Pets appear to see things that you can’t. In many cases, the animal will interact with something or appear fearful.
10. You feel like you are constantly being watched.
11. Electronics malfunction. Lights flicker, light bulbs blow, etc.
12. Synchronicities keep occurring. You keep seeing specific numbers, like 11:11 or 444 on the clock or other repeating numbers.
13. Frequent or strange accidents.
14. Sexually assaulted or tempted [link 2] by evil spirits.
15. People attacking or hating you for no valid reason.
16. Apports, deports, translocation, dematerialization.
17. Feel like there is an hinderance (1 Thess. 2:18).
18. In regards to children, having an imaginary friend who is evil. Seeing an evil entity (“boogie monster”) such as in the closet or under the bed.
19. An unsettling presence or spirit “camping” in a certain area of your home.

Wisconsin Woman Allegedly Strangles Man During Sexual Encounter, Dismembers Body

HNewsWire- During a sexual encounter, a woman in Green Bay, Wisconsin, reportedly strangled a man before mutilating his corpse, throwing his head and a “male organ” in a bucket, and fleeing the scene with his legs in a crockpot.

WARNING: There are gruesome details in this narrative. It is recommended that readers use caution.

According to Brown County’s online jail records, Taylor D. Schabusiness, 24, has been charged with first-degree intentional killing, mutilating a body, third-degree sexual assault, and a probation violation.

According to a criminal complaint acquired by WBAY, a lady contacted police from her Stony Brook Lane house in Green Bay on February 23 at 3:25 a.m., saying she discovered her yet-to-be-identified 25-year-old son’s severed head in a bucket. She said she awakened between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. after hearing a door slam and saw the body part after looking into a basement light that was turned on, according to WBAY.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, once an officer found the bucket with the severed head in the basement, he searched around the area and spotted “what seemed to be dried blood on a nearby mattress,” as well as other blood scattered around the basement.

According to the publication, Schabusiness was discovered at a residence on Eastman Avenue the same day after authorities heard she may have been the last person to see the victim. According to the lawsuit, they saw blood on her clothes and discovered “further human body parts, including legs” in her vehicle.

Authorities secured a search warrant for the victim’s mother’s house, where they located a “male organ” next to the head in a bucket, a torso in a storage bag, “body fluid,” and knives, according to WBAY.

According to the site, Schabusiness was asked what occurred during an interrogation with police and said, “That is an excellent question.” She and the victim reportedly used methamphetamine all day Tuesday before heading to the victim’s mother’s house and engaging in intercourse with chains. According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, she used a chain to choke the victim during the meeting, but then proceeded to strangle him with her own hands. She claims he stopped breathing around 3-5 minutes after the choking started, but she also claims she passed out.

According to WLUK-TV footage, “the Victim coughed up blood and was simply waiting for him to die as she was studying his face.”

According to the site, she allegedly questioned cops “whether they understood what it was like to love something so passionately that you murder it.”

“Schabusiness replied that the cops would have a good time trying to locate all of the organs…

According to Schabusiness, all of the body parts should be kept in the basement. According to WBAY, Schabusiness added that “there should be a foot or a leg in the vehicle.” She reportedly admitted to using kitchen knives, claiming that a serrated-edged bread knife was the best.

According to WBAY, “Schabusiness revealed the intention was for her to carry all of the body parts with her but she got lazy and only ended up putting the leg/foot in the vehicle and she forgot the head.”

Schabusiness’s bail has been set at $2 million cash, according to online jail records. She was charged with resisting or obstructing an officer in August of 2020, and she is classified as married, however it is unknown whether the victim was her husband.

This woman is so out of her mind she seems demon possessed. All the officers are doing is asking her to put her feet in the van so they can close the doors, and she just begins growling at them like a wild animal. She then tells officers in a super creepy voice “I don’t understand what you are telling me.”

Second Thessalonians 2:9-12 speaks of a strong delusion God will send in the end times: “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

First, it is clear this strong delusion will take place during the time of the lawless one (2 Thessalonians 2:8), also called the Antichrist or beast elsewhere in Scripture (Revelation 13). He is the one Jesus will kill with “the breath of his mouth” (2 Thessalonians 2:8; Revelation 19:15).

God sending a delusion is only part of the account. Two other aspects are clear. Satan is involved (2 Thessalonians 2:9) and this delusion applies to those “who did not believe the truth” (v. 12). It is incorrect to simply say God tricks these people. Instead, those who are influenced by Satan and do not believe are among those who accept the delusion God will send into the world during this time. God desires for all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

Update: 11/15/21 Nine-Year-Old Succumbs; Death Toll From Houston Concert Stampede Rises to 10

Who in their right mind would take a nine year old to this type of event. The parents should be charged.

An attorney for the family of a 9-year-old boy who was trampled at a Travis Scott concert in Houston and was on life support for a week said that the child had died from his injuries on Sunday.

The death of Ezra Blount brought the total number of those killed during a stampede at last week’s Astroworld Festival to ten, ranging in age from 9 to 27.

The deaths took place when the Grammy Award-nominated rapper Scott appeared before a crowd of 50,000 at NRG Stadium. The scene grew out of control as fans surged toward the stage.

“The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son,” said attorney Ben Crump. “This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert.”

But eventually, this more and more leads to self-destruction which a lot of times has been drug overdoses, alcohol and substance abuse, which inevitably leads to the death or suicide of the artist. But this one seems to have resulted in the death of eight (now 27) of Travis Scott’s devotees.”

Travis Scott’s “concert people died, and now he might be considering it as a sacrifice. It’s kind of what self-destruction eventually leads to. This might be his downfall, but the demon doesn’t care. There were demons present at the event – they would be there anyway trying to influence bad in the adverse, just as there are God’s good angels trying to encourage us to do good. But when people give themselves to evil, Satan ‘wins.’ Travis Scott will not be rewarded by Satan – Satan is a liar, and he only intends to harm and destroy.”

Second Thessalonians 2:9-12 speaks of a strong delusion God will send in the end times: “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

First, it is clear this strong delusion will take place during the time of the lawless one (2 Thessalonians 2:8), also called the Antichrist or beast elsewhere in Scripture (Revelation 13). He is the one Jesus will kill with “the breath of his mouth” (2 Thessalonians 2:8; Revelation 19:15).

Second, God sending a delusion is only part of the account. Two other aspects are clear. Satan is involved (2 Thessalonians 2:9) and this delusion applies to those “who did not believe the truth” (v. 12). It is incorrect to simply say God tricks these people. Instead, those who are influenced by Satan and do not believe are among those who accept the delusion God will send into the world during this time. God desires for all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

The first four seal events will be fulfilled during this time, but those events are not that exceptional. People have risen to great political prominence (as in the first seal) many times in the past, there have been many wars and famines (as in the second and third seals), and many people have died of such things (as in the fourth seal). There have even been multiple peace treaties involving Israel (like the “covenant” mentioned in Dan 9:27).

However, when the first 3 1/2 years are finished, we will have reached the midpoint of the end-times period, and things start happening in the angelic realm that will strongly shape the course of events on earth for the second 3 1/2 years. This is the period called the time, times, and half a time (Dan 7:25, Dan 12:7), and it begins with the 42 months of the great tribulation, as discussed below:

The Midpoint

Rev 12:7-12 – ⁷And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, ⁸and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. ⁹And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. ¹⁰Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. ¹¹“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. ¹²“For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

At the midpoint of the seven-year end-times period, God gives the command to expel Satan from His presence in heaven, and Satan is thus cast down to the earth. I believe Satan knows that this time is coming, but he doesn’t know when it will happen. When that time arrives, Satan will be enraged because he will then know that his time is short, specifically, the time, times, and half a time period (Rev 12:14).

Satan Establishes His Final Kingdom

Rev 13:1 – And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.

Rev 13:11 – Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a dragon.

Knowing that his time is short, Satan’s first order of business is to try to change the “time, times, and half a time” that has been decreed (Dan 7:25). For this purpose, he creates a new kingdom on the earth to oppose God and God’s people. This will be the eighth and final such kingdom that Satan will have created on earth (Rev 17:11). He begins by raising up these two “beasts”, which are demons who shall empower the two human leaders of this kingdom. The first is the political leader Antichrist, and the second is the religious leader The False Prophet.

From the midpoint forward, the Antichrist and this demon who empowers him appear to be synonymous, and they are collectively called the “beast“.

I believe that the demon who empowers Antichrist may be the same demon described in the fifth trumpet: Rev 9:11 – They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek, he has the name Apollyon… Note that both of these names mean “destroyer“.

The idea that this “demon king” of Rev 9:11 is the same “beast” who empowers Antichrist would explain some curious things about this demon:

• Why is this demon given so much prominence in Rev 9, even to the point of stating his name? Because he shall have such a prominent role as the demon of Antichrist.
• Why is this demon’s title “angel of the abyss” so similar to the “beast from the abyss” ascribed to Antichrist (Rev 11:7)? Because these titles refer to the same demon.
• Why is this demon called destroyer? Because Antichrist is called a “destroyer of the earth” (Rev 11:18).
• Why is this demon identified as a “king“? Because Antichrist is the king of Satan’s kingdom.

Side note: If this speculation is correct, it would mean that the “angel of the abyss” associated with the fifth trumpet event (Rev 9:11) had already come out of the abyss (or sea) at the midpoint (Rev 13:1), sometime before the other demons were released in the fifth trumpet event. This idea does not conflict with the account of this demon given in Rev 9:11).

The Persecution of God’s People, Israel

Rev 12:13-16 – ¹³And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. ¹⁴But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. ¹⁵And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. ¹⁶But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth.

Continuing from the midpoint, Antichrist (now empowered by the demon) will break whatever peace treaty he had established with Israel, beginning with an event called the abomination of desolation, in which he defiles the temple and stops the sacrifices (Dan 9:27, Dan 12:11, Matt 24:15, 2 Thes 2:3-4). After defiling the temple, he will attack the Jews with the intent to annihilate them.

However, some Jews will heed God’s advice to flee to the Mount of Olives (Zech 14:5, Matt 24:16-21), and those Jews shall be protected there for the entire time, times, and half a time period which follows the abomination (Rev 12:14). The protected remnant of Jews will be represented by the two witnesses (Rev 11:3) for the 1260 days following the midpoint. The trumpet event plagues will be striking the earth during this time, with some of them possibly occurring at the pronouncement of these two witnesses (Rev 11:6).

Side note: Some readers may wonder why I have placed these events at the end of chapter 12 chronologically after the events in chapter 13. The reason is this: I believe chapter 12 is summarizing what Satan will do, and chapter 13 provides elaboration on how he will do it. This pattern of summary followed by elaboration is actually observed multiple times in Revelation.

The Persecution of God’s People, the Christians

Rev 12:17 – the dragon was enraged with the woman and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

Rev 13:5-7 – ⁵There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. ⁶And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and the nation were given to him.

Satan, now even more enraged because of his inability to completely destroy the Jews, shall turn his wrath against Israel’s offspring (Rom 9:6,7,8), the Christians (those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus). Christianity is, of course, the faith borne from the remnant of Israel that acknowledged Jesus as the Christ, and are thus rightly called Israel’s offspring. Against the Christians, Satan’s appointed king shall prevail for the 42 months of the great tribulation. Thus we see Israel protected and the Christians persecuted in the end times.

The Fifth Trumpet Demons

Rev 9:1-6 – ¹Then the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him. ²He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. ³Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. ⁴They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man. ⁶And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.

At some point during the great tribulation, after the first four trumpet events have ravaged the earth, an angel (the “star” mentioned in verse 1) will release many more demonic creatures from the abyss. Presumably, the same abyss from which the two beasts of Revelation 13 came. This will mark the beginning of the fifth trumpet event, in which these demons torture people for five months.

The identity of the “star” in verse 1 is much debated. It almost certainly is some sort of angelic being, but is it a holy angel or an evil angel? It’s not a point for which one should be dogmatic, but I tend to think that this star is not only an evil angel, it is actually Satan himself. My reasons are as follows:

• The angel is described as “from heaven which had fallen to the earth“, and note that “had fallen” is past tense. That is, John did not see this angel fall to earth as part of the fifth seal event. Rather, he is just describing this angel as one that was from heaven but had fallen to earth. Given the chronological timing of demonic events, this identification points to Satan, who (as discussed above) was cast down from heaven to earth at the midpoint – the event that started the great tribulation.
• The text of Rev 13:1 suggests that Satan was involved in raising the first two demons out from the abyss, so it only stands to reason that Satan should release these other demons from there as well.
• Interestingly, there is yet another account in Revelation of an angel who comes from heaven to earth with a key to the abyss: Rev 20:1 – “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand to open the abyss”. The angel in chapter 20 is clearly a holy angel because he comes to put Satan into the abyss (Rev 20:2). Note the contrast between the language of these two accounts:
  – The angel of chapter 9 was “from heaven having had fallen”.
  – The holy angel of chapter 20 was “coming down from heaven”.
  This difference in language suggests that the angel in chapter 9 is not a holy angel and that he came to earth against his will.
• Also, note the contrast in the purpose of these two angels:
  – The angel of chapter 9 came to release demons from the abyss.
  – The holy angel of chapter 20 came to put a demon into the abyss.
  The opposing purposes suggest that the angel in chapter 9 is not a holy angel.
• That Revelation has two similar verses featuring an angel going from heaven to earth with a key to the abyss is suggestive that these two verses are meant to be related in a poetic way. The significance of this would be evident if Satan is placed into the same prison from which he had himself released demons.

If the angel of Rev 9:1 is Satan (as I believe it is), then we are left with the problem of motive. That is, why would Satan be the instrument of carrying out the fifth trumpet event, which delivers painful sores to people – except for the 144,000 Jewish servants sealed to by God (Rev 9:4)?

I believe the answer to this question is discovered by making some observations:

First of all, it’s not hard to see why Satan would want to release these demons who had joined his rebellion against God, because they would clearly increase Satan’s power upon the earth. Evidently, these demons had been imprisoned in the first place because they were particularly dangerous to mankind, so we should not be surprised that they should be harmful to men when released. In fact, Rev 9:5 indicates that they would have done far worse, except that they were restrained by God. The only reason they couldn’t kill people nor harm the 144,000 is that God didn’t permit them.

Also, the fact that people should suffer as a result of these demons surely wouldn’t bother Satan. But more to the point, the suffering of the people actually helps Satan’s cause, as seen by the consequences of “these plagues” (which includes the fifth trumpet event):

Rev 9:20-21, “The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts“.

That is, I believe that these people will blame God for the torments they suffer from Satan’s demons, and thus they harden their hearts even further against God. The fact that the 144,000 Jews are not harmed by these demons may actually create the false impression that the Jews are allied with the demons! People will continue to worship false gods and continue their murders (the martyrdom of the saints per Rev 6:11). This deception certainly appears to be working toward Satan’s purposes.

Side note: Many commentators describe the things that happen in chapters 6 through 11 as the “seal judgments” and the “trumpet judgments“. For the seals and trumpets, I prefer to use the more generic term, “events“. I believe that only the bowl events truly represent the judgments of God for the reasons given at the beginning of chapter 19 commentary.

The fifth trumpet event is a case in point, because calling it a “judgment” implies that God is the one inflicting people with sores, when in fact this may really have been a direct act of Satan and his demons. God actually stepped in to limit the damage caused by this act (Rev 9:4-5).

However, it is also clear that God has the ultimate authority of what is happening. That the angel of verse 1 was “given a key to the abyss” indicates that God granted Satan the authority to release these demons. Even if this event was caused by Satan for wicked purposes, it will ultimately fulfill God’s purposes. This point is discussed further below.

Will Christians be afflicted with the Fifth Trumpet torment?

The text says that the fifth trumpet demons will torment only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads, which I believe clearly refers to the 144,000 Jews who received the seal of God on their foreheads in chapter 7. This suggests that all other people, including Christians, may suffer this torment. Understandably, many believers have trouble accepting the idea that God would allow Christians to be tormented by these demons.

However, as discussed above, I don’t think we need to see the fifth trumpet torments as a “judgment from God”. From the text, the only actions clearly attributed to God are:

1. He gives the “star” (Satan, in my view) permission to release the demons from the abyss.
2. He imposes limits on how much damage these demons are allowed to do.

The actual desire to release these demons and torment people belongs to Satan, not God. With this being the case, there is no reason to think that Satan and his demons would exclude Christians from this torment.

It may still seem out of character that God would even permit Satan to hurt Christians. However, He does permit it, and this is not a new concept. We know from the account of Job (e.g. Job 2:6-7) that God has granted permission for Satan to harm a faithful person before. In fact, the great tribulation is a period of time when God gives Satan’s final king 42 months to conquer the saints (Rev 13:5,7). Of course, we know that most of the prophets and apostles suffered greatly for the sake of their testimony. Finally, Jesus Christ, the most righteous person ever, was allowed to suffer the worst agony for our sake.

Here are some points to keep in mind about saints allowed to suffer Satan’s attacks:

• In all cases, the suffering (even suffering unto death) is temporary, and it fades into nothing when compared to the promised kingdom (2 Cor 4:17, Phil 3:8).
• In all cases, the temporary suffering of the righteous can honor God (Matt 5:11-12).
• If Christians do suffer from the fifth trumpet demons, they still have an advantage over unbelievers: They can pray for God to heal them. It’s possible that God will heal them, which itself may even be used to advance the gospel.
• Remember that Satan has a kingdom on earth only because he deceived people into joining his rebellion against God. By rights, it should be God punishing these sinners! However, He graciously allows Satan’s kingdom to exist temporarily in order to give sinners an opportunity to receive the warnings (the trumpet events), repent, and by grace enter God’s eternal kingdom.

The Sixth Trumpet Demons

Rev 9:13-15 – ¹³Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, ¹⁴one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river the Euphrates.” ¹⁵And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind.

Here, we see another account that involves the releasing of “bound angels“, which must surely be demons. In this case, it appears that the same angel who sounded the sixth trumpet will release these four demons. Perhaps this is because these four demons are bound in a different prison (not the “abyss” as in the fifth seal, but “at the great river the Euphrates“). The “star” of the fifth seal was given a key to the abyss, but not to this other prison.

These four demons of the sixth trumpet appear to have some special status as particularly mighty angels who are especially dangerous to mankind. The emphasis on these angels, having been “prepared for the hour and day and month and year“, suggests that these angels may be mentioned elsewhere in scripture. This brings to mind the references to demons during the time of the flood:

1 Pet 3:19-20 – “…spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark“.

2 Pet 2:4 – “For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment“. The word translated here as “hell” is not the normal Greek word for that (geenna). It is the word Tartarus, borrowed from Greek mythology and defined as “the deep abyss in ancient Greek mythology that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked” (Wikipedia). It is not necessary to think that these demons have been brought out of hell.

Jude 1:6 – “And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling-these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on a Great Day.“

These verses refer to angels who sinned in the days before the flood and have since been imprisoned. The only passage in Genesis that could correspond to these angels is the one below, where the angels appear to be called “sons of God“.

Gen 6:1-8 – ¹When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, ²the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. ³Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” ⁴The Nephilim was on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. ⁵The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. ⁶The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. ⁷So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created-and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground-for I regret that I have made them.” ⁸But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

It is hard to be certain of exactly what this means, or to what extent (if any) figurative language is being used. Given that Scripture frequently uses sexual immorality (e.g. adultery, harlotry) to symbolize idolatry, it’s possible that the implied sexual union with angels refers to people worshiping demons, giving “birth” to much wickedness. Whatever happened, it was a great offense to God, and it prompted Him to destroy mankind with the flood – sparing only Noah and family.

A limitation is placed on these demons of the sixth trumpet. but only that they are not permitted to kill more than one-third of people. Again, I believe God places these limits because this is not yet the time of God’s wrath. The sixth trumpet represents the final moments of the time of God’s warnings. Throughout the trumpet events, we have been seeing increasingly damaging events, and the sixth is certainly the most damaging so far. However, all of the trumpet events have been clearly limited in the extent of damage they would cause. In contrast, when the wrath of God does come (in the bowl judgments), we will see no such limitations.

Satan’s Rise to Power

The fifth and sixth trumpet events have both featured the release of demons from prison. I believe that what we are seeing is that Satan, in the final moments of his role as “ruler of this world“, shall be granted the greatest authority and power he has ever had. All of the demons who followed him in rebellion have been released from their prisons and are now acting upon the earth. Some demons are torturing people, others are killing them, and people will be blaming God for all of this (Rev 9:20-21). This then is part of the great deception of the end times.

And yet, from God’s perspective, the release of these demons has been decreed to happen at this time so that they could be a deluding influence to those who place their trust in Satan’s Antichrist. Thus, this delusion on one hand serves Satan’s purposes in causing people to hate God, but on the other hand, it also serves God’s purpose in bringing about their judgment. Paul referred to this period of deception in the passage below (concerning Antichrist):

2 Thes 2:9-12 – ⁹ that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. ¹¹ For this reason, God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, ¹² in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

The Final Moments of Satan’s Reign

Rev 11:7 – When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.

The “they” in verse 7 is referring to God’s two witnesses in Jerusalem, and this verse describes the conclusion of their work on earth during the 1,260 days of great tribulation (Rev 11:3). As mentioned in chapter 11 commentary, these two witnesses have been striking the earth with plagues, possibly including the first four trumpet events.

These two witnesses will be indestructible for nearly 3 1/2 years, but Rev 11:7 says that Satan’s human cohorts will finally succeed at killing them. Having killed those two witnesses in Jerusalem, Antichrist and his followers will believe that they have stopped the plagues. This “victory” will also make them confident that they will finally be able to destroy that seemingly indestructible remnant of Jews who had also been protected by God during those 3 1/2 years (Rev 12:14-16).

This will be the high point of Satan’s career. He and his Antichrist shall be worshiped with joyous praise. It will be the closest that Satan shall ever come to be like God, which is what he has always desired (Isa 14:13-14). In truth, Satan falls infinitely short. He and his followers will enjoy this moment for just 3 1/2 days (Rev 11:10-11), and then the two witnesses will be raised from the dead, and bowls of God’s wrath will begin to strike the earth.

In these last moments of Satan’s rule, demonic forces will abound. People will be worshiping false gods, murdering Christians, celebrating the deaths of God’s two witnesses, and looking forward to the annihilation of Israel. The last time that there was this much wickedness going on in the world was in the days of Noah, before the flood and before all these demons were imprisoned. And just as God poured his wrath upon the wicked people in Noah’s day, God shall pour His wrath upon the wicked people of the end times. Instead of using a flood, God will use the bowl judgments. As Jesus said regarding the end times:
