CURRENT OR RECENT EARTHQUAKES and VOLCANOES 1-1-21

Well, the transition into the New Year has been a rather tumultuous one.  That does not bode well for the coming days.

Quake Watchers,
The past three days the world has witnessed the highest number of DEEP quakes (42) that I can recall in over 17 years of monitoring earthquakes. Typically, we see about 7-12 DEEP quakes in a 3-day period. This is 3-4 times above normal and is seriously concerning!
Normally, DEEP quakes are indicators of larger magnitude quakes striking nearby within 7-12 days. With this new precedent, we will see if this holds true in principle. If it does, then the next two weeks should see many major seismic events incoming across the world.
The Volcano Discovery website is down today, so I don’t have any updates on numbers of eruptions or what has happened today.
The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network website indicates there have been no tremors occurring in the Pacific Northwest for two consecutive days. This is rare, so we will take a “watch and see” attitude to see if they resume or if it is time to send out a major WARNING for a big quake to strike off the coast.
Croatia is still being pounded with hundreds of aftershocks following the M6.4 quake that struck a few days ago. Thousands of people are now homeless in winter weather conditions.
Wichita, Kansas continues to see multiple earthquakes striking. A high of M3.9 was recorded, and is the highest magnitude quake on record in the city. The month of December saw more notable earthquakes in Wichita than at any time in the past.
West Texas has seen a new breakout swarm of multiple quakes occurring with a high of M4.0 – this is exactly as I had forecasted.
See the current issue of the Quake News & Updates.
For those who are glad to see 2020 in the rear-view mirror and are thinking things can’t get any worse, I don’t want to give you false hope. It doesn’t look like that will be the case in 2021 as far as earthquakes, volcanoes, pestilences, and economics are concerned.
But my hope is not earthbound, my treasures are in heaven, from whence we look for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ! The worse it looks here on earth makes the future look bright for those who are heaven bound!
Until then!

An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred only 15 minutes ago 11 miles north of Stanton, Texas, United States, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.5 miles beneath the epicenter near Stanton, Martin County, Texas, USA, in the morning on Friday 1 January 2021 at 7:42 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Stanton (pop. 2,900) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Big Spring (pop. 28,900) 19 miles away, and Midland (pop. 133,000) 26 miles away. In Lamesa (pop. 9,400, 32 miles away), Gardendale (pop. 1,600, 39 miles away), Andrews (pop. 13,800, 44 miles away), Odessa (pop. 119,000, 45 miles away), and West Odessa (pop. 22,700, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt. #Texas #Stanton #Earthquake

San Francisco Earthquake Today: Earthquake wakes up San Francisco on New Year’s Eve

A preliminary 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday morning near San Francisco, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake, which hit at about 5:42 a.m., was centered about 4 miles south of Muir Beach and about 4 miles west of San Francisco, the USGS said. Some people in San Francisco reported feeling the temblor, which was measured at a depth of nearly 9 miles at the epicenter, the USGS said. One San Rafael resident told NBC Bay Area she felt her house shake, but nothing was damaged. A San Francisco resident said his chandeliers were swaying and things fell off shelves in his home. Earlier Thursday morning, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake shook in the East Bay near San Pablo, the USGS said. That quake struck at about 1:45 a.m.

The eruption of one of the most active volcanoes in the world, the Mexican Popocatepetl, has begun. It emits large amounts of water vapor, gases and ash. In addition, the volcano throws fragments of hot stones over a long distance. Mexican authorities warn residents of the danger in the 12 kilometers zone around the volcano. About 20 million people live in the Popocatepetl area, making it one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Overnight, lava continued to cascade from the west vent, feeding the new lava-lake at the summit of Kilauea volcano. There have been no major changes in the week-long eruption or in the lava level. Hawaiian Volcano Observatory field crews measured the lava lake as 588 feet deep on Monday. Which is about the same as it was yesterday. A synthesized voice was utilized in the narration for this story. Video and photos are from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Air quality at HVNP: https://www.hawaiiso2network.com/
