Ancient Bacterial DNA Could Thwart a Devastating Disease
The unique bacterial DNA of CpG oligonucleotides will reinforce the hepatitis B vaccine and could drop liver cancer rates.
Hepatitis B virus infects around 20,000 people per year in the United States, according to the CDC. Typically, the virus causes severe inflammation of the liver. Symptoms include fatigue, muscle aches, jaundice, abdominal pain, fever, discolored urine, weight loss, and an inability to tolerate fatty foods.
Normally, the virus comes and goes—but sometimes the virus causes long-term liver damage (cirrhosis) or liver cancer. In fact, hepatitis B virus is the most common cause of liver cancer in the world.
Two hepatitis B virus vaccines are currently on the market. Earlier this month, however, the Food and Drug Administration licensed another hepatitis B vaccine. This new vaccine employs a unique strategy: fighting the hepatitis B virus with … bacterial DNA.
Here’s how it works. All of our cells contain DNA, consisting of various combinations of nucleotides called cytosine, guanine, adenine, and thymine. DNA provides a blueprint that instructs cells on how to reproduce themselves.
Bacteria also contain DNA. Bacterial DNA, however, has certain patterns of nucleotides that aren’t found in human DNA. From the moment that we crawled out of the ocean onto land, we have been able to recognize these unique bacterial DNA patterns—a crude and early part of our immune system. There’s a reason for this primitive form of immunity: Once microbes breach the surface of our skin or intestines, where they live in large numbers, they can kill us. We need a defense system that is capable of recognizing these unique bacterial-specific molecular patterns and responding to them—immediately.
Which brings us back to the new hepatitis B vaccine. It’s identical to the two existing hepatitis B vaccines—which have been available since the 1990s—in that it contains 20 micrograms of a protein that is located on the surface of the virus. But unlike these other hepatitis B vaccines, the new vaccine also contains 3 milligrams of repeated linkages of cytosine and guanine—a molecular pattern unique to bacterial DNA called CpG oligonucleotides.
It’s the first time this immune-boosting product has been used in a vaccine. (The “p” just stands for the phosphodiester linkage that binds the cytosine and guanine.)
The FDA licensed this novel hepatitis B vaccine for people older than 18 years of age in certain high-risk groups like household contacts of someone who is infected, injection drug users, healthcare workers, or people with HIV, diabetes, or chronic lung or kidney diseases.
Although the existing hepatitis B vaccines have been lifesavers (virtually eliminating the disease in children), some problems have remained, especially for adults. About 5 percent of adults don’t respond to the vaccine. No matter how many doses are given, they are simply unable to make an adequate immune response. Second: some groups, including those most likely to benefit, don’t always develop an effective response. This is where the CpG oligonucleotides come in.
The CpG-containing hepatitis B vaccine has now been tested in about 14,000 adults. To figure out whether this novel vaccine strategy worked, researchers tested the quantity of hepatitis B virus-specific antibodies in serum (seroprotection). Two doses of the new hepatitis B vaccine were compared to three doses of one of the other hepatitis B vaccines. Seven months after the last dose, 95 percent of those who had received the vaccine containing the CpG motif developed protective antibodies as compared with 81.2 percent in the comparator group. The CpG vaccine also induced protective immunity more quickly and offered greater seroprotection in patients with type-2 diabetes (90 percent vs. 65.1 percent), people who were obese (94.7 percent vs. 75.4 percent), and people who smoked (95.3 percent vs. 78.8 percent).
Furthermore, the CpG-containing hepatitis B vaccine worked better in all age groups, including those who were 18 to 29 years old (100 percent vs. 93.9 percent), 30 to 39 years old (98.9 percent vs. 92 percent), 40 to 49 years old (97.2 percent vs. 84.2 percent), 50 to 59 years old (95.2 percent vs. 79.7 percent), and 60 to 70 years old (91.6 percent vs. 72.6 percent).
Notably, the two hepatitis B vaccines tested were indistinguishable with regards to mild or severe reactions—with the exception of one weird observation. Using small numbers derived from the large database of 14,000 vaccine recipients, the new vaccine was found to cause a statistically significant increase in heart attacks, along with a statistically significant decrease in prostate cancer. Because both of these outcomes are biologically implausible, both can be viewed skeptically. The issue of heart attacks, however, will be followed up in post-licensure studies.
Ironically, the best way to address the problems with the hepatitis B vaccine—as well as with any strategy necessitating the induction of long-lasting, specific immunity—might be to solicit the help of a part of our immune system that is designed to respond to something entirely different.
Extracting ancient DNA
Museums worldwide hold large collections of preserved specimens of living things. In well preserved specimens, the cell nucleus contains DNA that scientists can extract and use for experimentation. This DNA is known as ancient DNA.
Why are we interested in extracting ancient DNA?
Ancient DNA gives us a snapshot of the molecular make-up of an individual in a species at a certain point in time. It’s particularly useful for molecular evolutionary studies where questions about speciation or phylogenetics are being investigated.

Where can we find ancient DNA?
Ancient DNA can be extracted from a wide range of source material. Much of this source material is found in museums. This material includes archaeological specimens, fossils, historical skeletal material, mummified tissues, medical specimen archives and preserved plant remains.
Extracting ancient DNA from bone samples
The DNA extraction process varies according to the source material. These are the steps for a bonesample:
- Take a small sample (0.5–1.0g) of bone.
- Grind this into powder.
- Decalcify by suspending the sample in EDTA overnight at room temperature.
- Centrifuge to collect the sediment.
- Digest the sediment with proteinase K and DTT (dithiothreitol) overnight at 50–55°C.
- Extract the samples twice with phenol and once with chloroform.
- Centrifuge to recover the DNA.
- Make multiple copies of the DNA using polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

DNA contamination is a problem
Working with ancient DNA presents a number of challenges for scientists.
In particular, because the amount of ancient DNA is so small, scientists need to avoid contamination from other sources of DNA. In the lab, they use several procedures to ensure results are authentic and reproducible:
- Using a ‘clean’ lab where no other DNA is handled and wearing protective clothing.
- Adding negative controls to monitor for introduction of contaminating DNA, for example, including PCR blanks.
- Reproducing the results, for example, by using the same PCR primers on different DNA extracts from the same source material.
DNA quality is lower
Unlike DNA extracted from fresh samples, ancient DNA is mostly low-quality DNA. Ancient DNA is of low average molecular size and is often damaged over time by exposure to air. This makes cloning ancient DNA difficult. Most molecular analyses of ancient DNA use PCR to amplify the number of copies of the DNA. Generally, ancient DNA cloning is restricted to high copy number mitochondrial DNA sequences.

What’s in a vaccine? Have you ever wondered? Many times, we just “trust the authorities” on vaccination and don’t ever ask this simple question. Obviously vaccines contain antigens. Aside from that, vaccines contain adjuvants and other chemicals, stabilizers, and preservatives. Antibiotics are added to help prevent contamination during manufacturing. Despite the presence of antibiotics, many vaccines are still contaminated. Other questionable harmful ingredients in vaccines include formaldehyde, mercury, aluminum, and other toxic ingredients.
These ingredients make some wary parents concerned about vaccine safety. In today’s world, we are highly conscious about what types of foods we eat and what we give our children. We do our best to avoid toxins and chemicals in our food. Research is still out on the safety of genetically modified food, preservatives and food additives. So we find ourselves spending longer in the grocery isle reading labels, trying to avoid things that are processed or artificial.
Breast-feeding is encouraged as the healthiest thing for both baby and mom. We take giant measures to make sure we are doing what’s best for our children. How are we as a society reconciling injecting the following harmful ingredients in vaccines as healthy for our children?
Additives and Harmful Ingredients in Vaccines
Mercury
For many years children received 237 micrograms (mcg) of mercury in vaccines during their first two years of life. The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA), recommended “safe” level (to ingest, not inject) is 1/10th of 1mcg per kilogram a day. Vaccines have far exceeded these levels. Many people now question if thimerosal in vaccines contributes to the striking rise in autism that has occurred right alongside the increased number of vaccines.
Injected mercury is different than ingested mercury. In fact, it is 100 times more toxic and is associated with neurological damage. Mercury is 500 times more toxic than lead and is second only to Plutonium as the most toxic metal known to man. Mercury poisoning and the symptoms of autism are strikingly similar. In addition, mercury is a known carcinogen. Ironically, cancer is the leading cause of death to children past infancy. Could taking combined vaccines with mercury be contributing to cancer in our children?
Mercury is one of the most harmful ingredients in vaccines. A rabbit will die if given a mere 35 mcgs. Many people have mercury amalgam fillings. Having these type fillings complicates matters by creating a build up of mercury in the body. Why on earth are we putting one of the most toxic substances known to man in a vaccine?
There are NO safe amounts of mercury established for humans. Children receive combined vaccines that can build up mercury in the body and cause problems. Not one study exists showing it’s safe to inject mercury into humans.
Aborted Fetal Tissue in Vaccines
Vaccines which contain aborted fetal tissue are a concern for some people, especially those who are religious. The irony is, it’s legal to abort a fetus, but if that fetus is born, you are forced by law to inject other aborted fetus’s tissue into your child so that your child can attend school. So a mother’s rights over her child end with abortion.
Furthermore, there appears to be a correlation between the uses of aborted human fetal cells with the coincidental rise of autism.
Several online articles corroborate that coincidence demonstrating that aborted fetal tissue may be one of the most harmful ingredients in vaccines.
We see a spike in autism in 1995 with the introduction of human DNA to the MMR (measles, mumps, ruebella) vaccine, suggesting a possible link. According to Helen Ratajczak, former senior scientist at a pharmaceutical firm, there is a link to brain damage and human DNA in vaccines. DNA in vaccines is taken up by human cells and recombined into their genome.

Vaccines also contain foreign animal DNA from monkeys, pigs, and insects. If you are a vegan, this may be an issue for you. In addition, scientists grow some vaccines in chicken embryos so they contain egg protein.

If you would never eat these things, and they are not even safe to place on your skin, why on earth would you inject them? In the 1950s, rhesus monkey kidney cells, which contain Simian Virus 40 (SV40) if the animal is infected, were used in preparing polio vaccines. SV40 is a cancer causing virus that now infects humans thanks to the US government.
Because SV40 was not discovered until 1960, no one was aware in the 1950s that the polio vaccinecould be contaminated. Almost 100,000 people were given a vaccine with this cancer-causing agent. Both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and vaccine giant Merck admitted this atrocity publicly.

Even after the US government knew about contamination, they allegedly continued to inject children with the contaminated vaccine until the 1990s.
SV40 is known to cause different types of cancers in laboratory animals including mesotheliomas, lymphomas and brain cancers.
A study in The New England Journal of Medicine, found that mothers who received the Salk polio vaccine had brain tumors at a rate “13 times greater” than mothers who received no vaccine! When harmful ingredients in vaccines include cancer, it’s time to step back and re-evaluate your risk vs. benefit ratio.
Recombinant DNA a Biohazard
Yes, a bio hazard has been found in vaccines. Recombinant DNA, often shortened to rDNA, can occur when a combination of two or more gene sequences occur. rDNA is basically an artificial DNA strand.
Believe it or not, genetically modified Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA, (firmly attached to aluminum) was found in blood samples of a 13 year old girl who became chronically ill following her third dose of the controversial vaccine Gardasil. This vaccine purports to protect against HPV and cervical cancer. We’ve yet to see any solid research to back those claims.
However, a quick visit to the website The Truth About Gardasil website proves there are plenty of injuries and deaths caused by the harmful ingredients in this vaccine. rDNA could potentially cause human cell mutations and cancer. Yes, we now know rDNA can form and attach to the adjuvant aluminum.
Aluminum
Research shows aluminum is harmful to all life forms. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved aluminum for use as an adjuvant in vaccines as a way to boost immune response.
Aluminum interferes with many cellular and metabolic processes in the body’s nervous system and tissues. The American Academy of Pediatrics confirms aluminum affects the body negatively.
Apparently, the FDA limits the dosage to 0.85 milligrams per vaccine. This is supposed to minimize exposure to children. How can this possibly work when children receive other vaccines at the same time that also contain aluminum?
Children receive multiple aluminum containing vaccines at once. Repeated exposure to aluminum can have damaging effects. If following the recommended schedule of the CDC, a child gets injected every couple of months with more aluminum. Studies with mice demonstrate a transient rise in aluminum levels in brain tissue. This means aluminum builds up in the brain and potentially other organs. Aluminum is widely associated with breast cancer. More recent research shows a link between aluminum and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Polysorbate 80
A preservative used in vaccines called Polysorbate 80 is so toxic that it should never touch your skin or be ingested. Injecting something directly into the body, bypassing all our normal walls and fences, is even more dangerous. Polysorbate 80 should definitely not be injected, and yet it is in vaccines. Studies with lab rats show this preservative has both carcinogenic and infertility effects.
Yet, it’s ironic that this carcinogenic ingredient is found both in Merck’s cancer vaccine, Gardasil, and is also used in chemotherapy given to cancer patients.
Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is another toxic ingredient injected into millions of children annually. There is sufficient evidence from cancer studies in humans proving the carcinogenic effects of this ingredient. Both the Environmental Protection Agency and the International Agency for Research on Cancer admit formaldehyde is a carcinogen. Why is the CDC putting known carcinogens in vaccines?

Dr. Kennedy has been in medicine for almost 50 years. He is currently residing and practicing in the State of California.
After the passage of California SB 277 in 2015 which removed parental rights to refuse vaccines for their children, parents began coming to see him to see if they could receive a medical exemption for vaccines.
Dr. Kennedy believes that so many parents came to him because other doctors were afraid to write medical vaccine exemptions, fearing reprisals from the California State Medical Board.
Dr. Kennedy states that doctors fear the loss of their medical license for writing vaccine medical exemptions. This is reportedly what the Medical Board has tried to do with Dr. Bob Sears. See:

The Medical Board then allegedly examines these medical records of school children to find out which doctors are writing vaccine medical exemptions, and then goes after those doctors.
Dr. Kennedy claims that no doctor has been willing to stand up to this practice until now. He is suing each of the 14 members of the State Medical Board in California.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the chairman of the World Mercury Project.
The nonprofit organization’s goal is to “ban all uses of mercury on a global level.”
The group states that mercury is the second most toxic element on Earth and can cause inflammation in brain tissue. That inflammation has been connected to autism, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and other ailments.
The group says mercury is released into the air by coal-fired power plants and can be found in our food supply.
Mercury is also in thimerosal, a preservative that in the past was used in some but not all childhood vaccines. The ingredient was removedTrusted Source as a safety precaution in 2003.
Thimerosal is still used in flu and tetanus shots.
Officials at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say thimerosal is safe to use as a preservative in vaccines, but Kennedy and others aren’t convinced.

The group feels strongly enough about the issue that they held a press conference last month and offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who can present a peer-reviewed study that proves that thimerosal is safe.
Healthline has taken a look at both sides of the vaccination debate in a detailed article.
As part of that research, Healthline talked with Kennedy about his concerns. Here are excerpts from that half-hour interview.
Healthline: Why is this issue so important to you?
Kennedy: I was litigating and managing around 30 cases against coal-fired power plants, principally focusing on mercury emissions. I had learned a lot about mercury toxicity. I was going around the country speaking on the issue and I began running into women who would tell me that if I was truly interested in mercury exposures to children that I needed to look at thimerosal in vaccines … As I began reading the science, I was struck by the huge delta between what the actual science said and how it was being presented by the press and the public health regulators … It made me angry that they were continuing the practice of injecting children with neurotoxins.
Healthline: It seems that there is an element in here of fighting against big business. It seems that you could compare this to what the sugar and the tobacco industry did with science.
Kennedy: Sugar, tobacco, the carbon industry. They all did this.
Healthline: Do you see a similarity here?
Kennedy: It’s very similar. This is really almost identical to the global warming debate because you have all the independent science … saying there is an effect. In other words, that carbon is warming the globe and with neurodevelopment disorders [that] mercury in vaccines are causing [them]. Then you have a small [amount] of industry-created science … that purportedly exonerates thimerosal and is really designed and written by industry scientists … and it appears on the CDC’s website. But the science is weak and fraudulent … We brought to our press conference 321 studies … 240 studies on neurological effects other than autism and 81 studies indicating a link to autism. We could not find a single study that says thimerosal was safe … What the CDC tells you is not science. What The New York Times reports is not science. And what your doctor tells you is not science … If you look at [studies] done by research scientists you will find a mountain of studies that support my position and very, very few studies that dispute me.
Healthline: What about vaccines in general? Would you agree that the vast majority of science says vaccines in general are safe?
Kennedy: It’s not my expertise. I don’t think there is any study you can do that would say that particular thing. I think you’d have to look vaccine by vaccine.
Healthline: It seems your main concern is the flu shot, which is given to children and pregnant woman. Is that your focus?
Kennedy: It’s being given to children at 6 months and it’s being given to pregnant women. So, today the exposure a child suffers is probably the greatest in history. If you give a flu shot to a woman who is one or two months pregnant, that child could be getting thousands of times of exposure levels to mercury.
Healthline: You’re talking about a pretty big cover-up or conspiracy here. Do you really think those agencies are in cahoots? That there’s all this corruption within the industry? Because that’s what it would take to pull this off?
Kennedy: The CDC has systemically [within its vaccine branch] ordered its scientists to destroy data, to manipulate data, to massage it, to dump it in garbage cans [if it uncovers] links between development diseases and vaccines. Do I think everyone at the CDC is corrupt? Of course not. There is a tiny handful of corrupt scientists and leaders … The rest of the public health community is not part of any conspiracy, but it has [become part of] the orthodoxy. It’s the same as the pedophile scandal in the Catholic Church … There was a tiny handful of corrupt priests, but the entire church — the bishops, the cardinals, the Vatican, and the other priests — and the prosecutors and the press and the police … told themselves it was more important to protect the institution even though it was injuring the children it was supposed to be protecting. The scandal and silence went on for years before it was exposed.
Healthline: Why would this handful [of CDC employees] do this?
Kennedy: [When information on thimerosal reached CDC officials]they said that if we come clean about this, not only are we going to get sued, but the vaccine companies are going to get sued, and they won’t be able to make any vaccines. I think there was a worry … that if they told the truth, that the American people would lose faith and the institution would be so badly injured that maybe it would create even bigger problems with public health … It’s not completely selfish … There was a genuine concern that this could destroy the whole program and they had to clean it up.
Healthline: Are you worried at all that some of the antivaccination campaigns … could do just that? That they could harm the overall vaccine industry and cause harm to public health?
Kennedy: I don’t see how they can do that because Congress has now passed a law that makes it virtually impossible to sue a vaccine company.
Healthline: Taking this a little broader, do you worry at all that some of the vaccine safety concerns from people might feed into the antiscience mood that seems to be building in the country and that includes climate change?
Kennedy: I’m trying to fight that trend and get people to pay attention to real science. There’s so much scientific illiteracy, especially in the press. The press doesn’t read science … They just parrot what the CDC tells them. Is there any other arena where the press thinks it’s OK to just parrot what a government official tells them?
Healthline: There’s something folks on the other side have said … They think a lot of this is fueled by parents who understandably just want an answer, just something to blame, for their kids’ autism. What would be your response to that?
Kennedy: They are dismissing the stories of tens of thousands that saw the same thing happen to their children … What are the chances they all made up the same story? … If this is not caused by mercury, then find out what it is and get rid of it.

California Court of Appeal Rejects Challenge to Vaccine Law

The Second Appellate District’s Court of Appeal upheld the California law that removed California’s Personal Belief Exemption (PBE) from school immunization requirements earlier this month.
The decision is a strong endorsement of immunization mandates and is binding on all state courts until another appellate decision is handed down, or the Supreme Court of California addresses the question.
Known as SB277, the vaccine requirements became law in June 2015. Inspired by a large outbreak of measles at Disneyland earlier that year, the law gave California parents a choice: they could vaccinate a child against ten diseases, obtain a medical exemption stating that the child had a medical condition that prevents vaccinating, or keep the child at home and provide education through homeschooling or an independent study.
The law improved California’s immunization rates dramatically, though in some schools unjustified medical exemptions are a problem. Medical exemptions in California have tripled since the passage of SB277; in some schools, the rates of medical exemptions are unexpectedly high. The rate of growth and the distribution of exemptions suggest some doctors have been selling unjustified exemptions – as have online pronouncements by some such doctors. Dr. Bob Sears, recently sanctioned for giving an exemption to a child without checking the records, stated on Facebook that there are several disciplinary cases for unjustified exemptions pending against him.
Still, the overall immunization rate in California increased dramatically.
However, there were a few additional complications. For example, SB277 includes a clause stating that it “does not prohibit a pupil who qualifies for an individualized education program [IEP], pursuant to federal law and Section 56026 of the Education Code, from accessing any special education and related services required by his or her individualized education program.”
Whether this means that students with IEP are exempt from immunization requirements completely, or to a more limited degree, will likely be the subject of litigation at some point because districts interpret the clause differently.
The law was also implemented gradually. Children had to be up to date at checkpoints, when they first entered the system, in kindergarten, and at seventh grade. So, a child who entered seventh grade in 2015 (when the law was signed) could finish school unimmunized, and a child who started kindergarten during that year could stay unvaccinated until seventh grade.
To date, five lawsuits have been filed against the law—two by the same group of plaintiffs with substantially similar arguments, initially in federal court and then in state court. Five trial courts (two state, three federal) have so far rejected these suits. Two of these cases were appealed, and this was the first one decided.
In Brown v. Smith, six plaintiffs (out of an initial group of eight) challenged the law claiming that it was invalid because the state could not constitutionally mandate “unavoidably unsafe” products, and vaccines, they claimed, were very unsafe. It was unconstitutional because it violated their religious freedom as protected by the First Amendment and the California constitution, and it violated their children’s right to education because it violated equal protection. Far less convincingly, the group argued that the law violates a legal prohibition on medical experiments. The court rejected that swiftly.
The Court of Appeal rejected these claims. First, the court pointed out that the plaintiffs, in claiming vaccines were unavoidably unsafe, were mischaracterizing a Supreme Court case, Breuswitz v. Wyeth, from 2011. That case did not, as plaintiffs said, state that vaccines were unavoidably defective and cause “indiscriminate death and injury.” In fact, it emphasized the substantial benefits of vaccines and the risk that undermining immunization programs would lead to children’s deaths. The plaintiffs’ other claims were not more convincing. The court rejected their First Amendment claims, mostly because existing jurisprudence – for example, Phillips v. City of New York (2d Cir. 2015) 775 F.3d 538 and Prince v. Massachusetts (1944) 321 U.S. 158 166-167. In those cases, the courts found that “The right to practice religion freely does not include liberty to expose the community or the child to communicable disease or the latter to ill health or death.”
Even if the First Amendment required strict scrutiny, immunization mandates would stand: preventing communicable diseases is a compelling interest (the court addressed the other prong – least restrictive means – in its discussion of the right to education).
The court found the California constitution’s right to education did not prevent the state from imposing an immunization mandate.
The court’s reasoning here had three parts:
First, the court pointed out that the cases that plaintiffs relied on to claim education as a fundamental right, such as Serrano v. Priest from 1971 (Serrano v. Priest (1971) 5 Cal.3d 584, 608-609), were cases in which California’s supreme court found that the state cannot have a funding system for education – a fundamental interest – that discriminates on the basis of wealth, a suspect classification under California’s constitution (though not the federal constitution). Since there is no such classification at work in SB277, Serrano does not apply.
Second, the court pointed out that SB277 would survive strict scrutiny. As I mentioned, preventing disease outbreaks is a compelling interest. As to the claim that SB277 was not the least restrictive means, the court mentioned that plaintiffs did not specify an alternative means, and then went on to say:
“….compulsory immunization has long been recognized as the gold standard for preventing the spread of contagious diseases. As is noted in the legislative history, studies have found that “when belief exemptions to vaccination guidelines are permitted, vaccination rates decrease,” and community immunity wanes if large numbers of children do not receive required vaccinations.”
This is a strong (and fact-based) endorsement of immunization mandates. The court ended by quoting the conclusion of the first trial court to address SB277 on this point:
“The right of education, fundamental as it may be, is no more sacred than any of the other fundamental rights that have readily given way to a State’s interest in protecting the health and safety of its citizens, and particularly, school children,” and “removal of the [personal beliefs exemption] is necessary or narrowly drawn to serve the compelling objective of SB 277.”
The court rejected plaintiffs’ efforts to claim a violation of equal protection. Plaintiffs went so far as to compare SB277 to Brown v. Board of Education, claiming their children were being segregated. They named several distinctions the law made, including between immunized children and unimmunized ones, children with medical exemptions and those without, different age groups, and so on. But as the court pointed out, not only did plaintiffs not point to any authorities making any of these distinctions suspect, “[t]he statutory classifications and exemptions plaintiffs dispute do not involve similarly situated children, or are otherwise entirely rational classifications.” There is no discrimination when children that are unalike in meaningful ways are treated differently, and it does not violate equal protection.
The court, in short, following in a tradition of over 100 years of jurisprudence, rejected the claims against the immunization mandate. It went further, and strongly endorsed the law for its protection of children and the community. This is a good result for the children of California.
State Sen. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, is being sued by anti-vaccine activists, who say he blocked them on Twitter in violation of their First Amendment rights.
The lawsuit argues Pan’s Twitter account is a modern public forum because he is a government official.
The suit, which was filed in federal court in Sacramento on July 27, alleges Pan blocks people with dissenting perspectives “based solely on his unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination.” In May, President Donald Trump lost a similar lawsuit over his blocking of users on his @realDonaldTrump account.
Suzanne Rummel and Marlene Burkitt, who declined to comment, are the two anti-vaccine activists who filed suit. Marian Tone, their lawyer, released a statement on their behalf outlining the case they plan to make against Pan.

These tactics, whether by President Trump or Senator Pan, cannot be tolerated in our modern society.”
Rummel and Burkitt strongly opposed Senate Bill 277 — a law Pan co-sponsored in 2015 that eliminated the personal belief exemption from mandatory childhood vaccination. Pan received heavy backlash on Twitter at the time.
Rummel and Burkitt have a history of posting provocative tweets about Pan, including references to him as a “Mercury joker” and depictions of him as a Nazi. Shortly after Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill, Burkitt tweeted that “vaccines just might cause leukemia” — a claim strongly refuted by the scientific community.
Since this story’s publication, Rummel has deleted some provocative tweets, including depictions of Pan as a Nazi. The Bee has replaced one of her deleted tweets with a screenshot.

To become informed we must continue to educate ourselves. Many times this education must be done on our own, as we’re not sure where studies come from or who has a vested financial interest in the results of that study. For this reason I have created a full page and listed multiple studies on the toxins found in vaccinations. This includes their health dangers, and some alternative choices, such as information on exemptions.
What many physicians are not taught in school is that the number of people who died from the measles between 1900 and 1960 dropped by 97.7%. The death toll in the U.S. went from 133 per million to 0.3 per million by 1960. However, before vaccines for diphtheria and pertussis were ever introduced, they too declined by over 90%.
The greatest factors in better health have come from better nutrition, higher quality transportation of fresh fruits and vegetables, adequate refrigeration, and proper sanitation, such as trash removal and the installation of sewage systems. It is not due to vaccines. The World Health Organization (WHO) states, “The best vaccine against common infectious diseases is an adequate diet,” even though they continue to promote vaccinations.
Only four vaccines were routinely given 54 years ago; they were for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and smallpox. At that time, autism was unknown. When first discovered in 1943, less than 1 in 10,000 children were affected by these developmental disorders. Today, more children are being diagnosed with autism, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Their new numbers now show that autism affects one in 59 children, an increase from previously reported one in 68 children.
